Increasing safety and quality of bridges
The Bridge Formula Program enhances safety and quality of bridges throughout California and includes support for Tribal Transportation Facility bridges.
The Bridge Formula Program will provide funds to states by formula for bridge replacement, rehabilitation, preservation, protection, or construction projects on public roads. This program includes three set-asides: 15 percent will be set-aside for use on off-system bridges; 3 percent will be set-aside for use on Tribal Transportation Facility bridges; and, 0.5 percent will be set-aside for administrative expenses of the Federal Highway Administration.
Inspection and load rating and posting of highway bridges are not eligible projects under the BFP. However, these projects are eligible under other programs of the Federal-aid Highway Program. States may use their National Highway Performance Program (NHPP) and Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG) apportionments for conducting the inspection and load rating and posting of their highway bridges. Tribes may use Tribal Transportation Program funds for these purposes.
