Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program
The Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program dedicates funding to planning organizations and Tribal governments for planning, design, demolition, and reconstruction activities.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law created a new program at the Department of Transportation to reconnect communities divided by transportation infrastructure – particularly historically disadvantaged communities too often nearly destroyed or cut in half by a highway. This new competitive program will provide dedicated funding to state, local, metropolitan planning organizations, and Tribal governments for planning, design, demolition, and reconstruction of street grids, parks, or other infrastructure to address these legacy impacts. Eligible facilities under this program are highways, including a road, street, or parkway, or other transportation facilities, such as a railroad track, that create a barrier to community connectivity, including barriers to mobility, access, or economic development, due to high speeds, grade separations, or other design factors.
